We are a group known as the American FEVR Research Consortium, organized by Kang Zhang , M.D., Ph.D. The purpose of this organization is to investigate the genetic basis and clinical features of FEVR and to be resource for patients and families who want to learn more about FEVR.

Kang Zhang, M.D., Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Dept. of Ophthalmology
Visual Science Investigator, Program in Human Molecular Biology and Genetics
Dr. Zhang's research focuses on the use of molecular genetic techniques to identify genes that predispose patients to retinal diseases and developing drug therapies to prevent these diseases. Dr. Zhang is an internationally recognized genetic researcher and clinician. He completed his retinal fellowship at the University of Utah in 2003 and his ophthalmology residency at Johns Hopkins University's Wilmer Eye Institute in 1999. He received his medical degree magna cum laude from Harvard Medical School in 1995 and his doctorate in genetics from Harvard in 1991. |

Michael T. Trese, M.D.
Clinical Professor of Medical Sciences, Oakland University & Clinical Associate Professor, Wayne State University
Dr. Trese is Chief of Pediatric and Adult Vitreoretinal Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital. He has a special interest in retinopathy of prematurity and pediatric vitreoretinal disease and is an internationally recognized expert in this area. He has authored an extensive number of publications in professional journals and textbook chapters. His current science and clinical research includes pediatric and adult Vitreoretinal disease. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University in 1976, residency at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute and vitreoretinal fellowship at Duke University. |

William S. Tasman, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Professor and Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology, Jefferson Medical College Wills Eye Hospital
Dr. Tasman founded Retinovitreous Associates, Ltd. in 1974. Since 1985 he has also been Ophthalmologist-in-Chief of Wills Eye Hospital. Dr. Tasman completed his residency at Wills Eye Hospital, followed by a retinal fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital. Dr. Tasman is a founding member of both the Retina Society and the Club Jules Gonin Retina Society. He also serves on the Foundation Board of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Tasman has published extensively and currently serves as Editor for Duane's Clinical Ophthalmology. |

Jeremy H. Nathans, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Nathans obtained his medical degree and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Stanford University School of Medicine. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Genentech, Inc. with Axel Ullrich. He is currently an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Nathans is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has published in numerous journals and textbooks. |

Dennis P. Han, M.D.

Dr. Han received his medical degree from the University of Chicago and completed his residency at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary and fellowship at the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Han entered clinical practice in the Merrillville and Valparaiso area in 1995. Dr. Han is Board Certified in Otolaryngology and a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons.

Darius M. Moshfeghi, M.D.

Dr. Moshfeghi received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and stayed for his residency in ophthalmology. Dr. Moshfeghi did an ocular oncology fellowship at the University of Tennessee Memphis & St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He then completed his vitreoretinal fellowship from the Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is the author of over 40 peer-reviewed articles and 10 book chapters and has been invited to speak at many national meetings. |

Jane Ann Young , MS

Jane has fought FEVR from the age of 3 months old and is legally blind. Jane has undergone 25 eye surgeries since the age of 10 months. She obtained a research position at the Davit Taylor Model Basin, a US Navy research facility, and worked on underwater acoustics problems. She also works as a visiting scientist at the University of Maryland's Center of Marine Biotechnology. She obtained a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Catholic University of America. Her goal is to one day have fevr.net available in every language throughout the world and create the first FEVR foundation. |

Dr Shapiro is a member of the Association of Pediatric Retina Specialists, He has edited two books on ROP and has been the Principle investigator for the Chicago center for NIH studies of ROP, both STOP-ROP and ETROP. He has also served on their executive committees. He was the only Chicagoan on the International Committee on Classification for ROP |

He completed a residency at the University of Chicago, followed by a Fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and Intraocular Tumors at Wills Eye Hospital. Dr Abboud and his division members currently see and treat many patients with Hereditary VitreoRetinal Diseases including FEVR. Dr Abboud is currently the Editor In Chief of the Middle Eastern Journal of Ophthalmology. |
